Andrew Gillum is the Democrat candidate for Governor of the Sunshine State. (My home away from home for the past 30-something years.) Running as a Democrat he espouses the usual tax and spend rhetoric mixed with socialism that has become the party norm for Democrats. Gillum’s platform is the usual empty promises laced with generalities and feel good nonsense. Why is Gillum’s election important to anyone outside of Florida? The 2020 Constitutionally mandated census.

Florida is projected to gain 2 seats in the House of Representatives from that census and the governor of Florida has influence and approval power for the redistricting that would allow for the increased number of seats. All districts will need to be redrawn, of course, Gillum will only approve a design that favors his cronies in the less than patriotic Democratic Party. Meaning for the next 10 years the delegation of Florida would be majority Democratic members. Florida has pockets of Republicans that no amount of gerrymandering will disrupt but there are some districts that could be changed enough to allow the Democrats to win every race. Remember Florida gets 2 additional seats rest assured they will be drawn in such a manner that only Democrats could win.

I know most of the readers of this blog are proud West Virginians. I lived and worked in both Charleston and Huntington for years before heading to the beaches and Disney World. You may be thinking how does Florida impact someone from West Virginia? Unfortunately, West Virginia is losing population and will lose one seat in the House of Representatives. Imagine that seat going to a state with a Democratic governor that will make sure his party gains a seat in the House. Please if you visit our beaches or theme parks and have relatives in Florida encourage them to vote Republican. Here are some issues to prove your position while debating your family and friends.

First and foremost, Andrew Gillum is 100% bought and paid for by George Soros and proudly admits it. During an interview, he said he “deeply appreciated” the money! ( and adding some trivial anecdote about his mom donating $20 monthly, implying his funding is majority grass roots. As with Joe Manchin of West Virginia Gillum’s out of state donations far exceed his in-state donations. You may be asking what is wrong with Soros’ money? After all Snopes, the pretend fact checking website, debunked his Nazi connection, right? No, they just ignore direct quotes. In George Soros’ own words from an interview in 1988:

Kroft: …My understanding is you went out with this protector of yours, who swore you were his adopted godson.

Soros: Yes.

Kroft: Went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from Jews.

Soros: Yes, that’s right.

He goes on to state he has no remorse! He was 14 at the time and yet as an adult cannot recognize the crime in which he was a willing participant. I would think a man of his wealth would spend his waning years trying to correct the wrongs of his youth and work to make amends. George Soros would rather continue his property thieving ways by influencing elections with his ill-gotten gains. Soros supports the tax increasing positions of Andrew Gillum. Excessive taxes are just another way the government steals from the population just like little Georgie.

If Andrew Gillum was an honest and upright person, he would return the blood money of George Soros. As with most Democrats he has no morals.

Gillum on his website ( talks about Florida families struggling to make ends meet. His solution is to raise corporate taxes! Citing California’s taxes as a target to stay under he wants to raise taxes from the current 5.5% to 7.75%. What will corporations do to offset a tax hike? Raise prices, lay off people and slow investments. Unemployment goes up and people that do have jobs find their dollars will not go as far. Corporations are fleeing California headed for low tax states. Gillum is a politician he has never ran a business and thus has no experience understanding the consequences of raising taxes on a business.

As a side note, Florida and California have nearly the same poverty rate (CA at 16.4% and FL at 16.6%) thus increased taxes can’t be expected to impact poverty in a positive way. Also as Mayor of Tallahassee Gillum raised property taxes FOUR times! You will see later the tax increases made no improvements in Tallahassee.

On education Gillum is frankly, uneducated. He wants to spend $1 billion on education! He doesn’t explain where the additional money will come from and he forgets that the Florida Lottery which started in 1988 was sold to the residents as a way to increase funding to our schools without raising taxes. In fact, Florida’s Lottery has generated $1 billion each of the last 16 years for schools. Florida is ranked 40th in education after spending $16 billion plus! The problem is not money (income) it is administration (spending) and he is not even addressing that. As most Democrats, he thinks throwing money at a problem is the answer.

Gillum believes in restricting the Second Amendment. Using the children of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School as political fodder he pushes for more restrictions and laws designed to chip away at our rights. As with education Gillum is too blind to see the real problem. The issue is not the tool used to kill but rather the heart of perpetrator. Removing God from schools, advocating against the preciousness of life and encouraging disregard for the rule of law is the bed Democrats have made. The short-sighted answer, according to Gillum, is more useless laws rather than enforcing those on the books and holding the officials that did not follow procedures accountable in a meaningful way. The tragedy at that high school could have been prevented without a single gun restriction, Obama and the Gillum’s Democrats are 100% responsible for what happened. They set regulations in place that kept that child criminal out of jail and in situations which he should have never been. The ball on that criminal was dropped so many times it stopped bouncing. Again, Gillum is blind to the real cause of the shooting using the emotions of hurting parents and scared children to push a political agenda. I will say it again IT IS NOT A GUN PROBLEM IT IS A HEART PROBLEM.

Gillum believes Socialist Bernie Sanders has the answer for health care. ( Except that estimates for Socialist Care exceeds $32.7 TRILLION. Being a career politician Bernie has no idea how business works just like Gillum. The cost of healthcare must be paid by someone, whether it be the people or businesses. The result is higher taxes for everyone. Make no mistake about that, Socialized Medicine will be paid by taxes. The politicians will give the tax some cute, warm fuzzy name avoiding the word tax but it will result in less money in your bank account or pay check.

Another downside is the restrictions on payouts for procedures. Why do you think only certain doctors accept Medicaid and Medicare? Because they can’t get paid market value for their services. What do you think would happen to doctors when they get a cut in billings? Lay off office and nursing staffs or quit the profession in favor of more money elsewhere. Socialized medicine is a failure in every country. Why do you think people come here for health care? Here is one recent example (

Gillum wants open borders and actively pushes the fake news narrative of children separated from parents at the border. This has been proven to false, yet it is still a talking point due to Florida’s high immigrant population. The problem would simply go away if the illegal immigrants (which means they already don’t want to follow our laws, thus making them criminals) would just become legal immigrants and help Make America Great Again rather than line up looking for a handout. Building a wall and enforcing rather than rewarding illegal activity would fix that problem. But again, as a Democrat Gillum is interested in emotional stories rather than logical solutions that help all Floridians and America in general.

Gillum has proven weak on crime. As Mayor of Tallahassee the capitol of Florida has seen its murder rate increase 52% under his “leadership”. As well as an overall increase of crime in general. ( Lastly Gillum’s administration is under FBI investigation. Where there is smoke, there is fire. Many of the allegations speak to the shady character of Gillum, like getting free tickets to games and the theater. I wonder if those were listed as gifts on his tax returns or just understood as bribes. ( )

On the bright side, Gillum, does support Israel, Florida ratifying ERA (which is symbolic as the Amendment is well past its expiration date) and Puerto Rico (another symbolic gesture as Puerto Rico is already a US territory afforded all the rights a US citizen normally has). In other words, weak on substance strong on symbolism.

Andrew Gillum is a Socialist masquerading as a Democrat that believes himself above the law. He was bad for Tallahassee and will be worse for Florida. If you are not a resident of the Sunshine State, please help by exposing his misdeeds to your family and friends that do call Florida home. If you don’t your next beach or theme park vacation may be riddled with high fees (to pay for the taxes he will impose) or you could be a victim of crime.

Remember, West Virginia will lose a seat in the House of Representatives after 2020. Don’t allow it to become a Democratic seat that will vote against West Virginians. (

Bill Moore: Joe Manchin: Representing West Virginia? Think again

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey leads his Democratic rival Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) in a new poll just released.

October 17, 2018

In three weeks, we, as a nation head, to the polls in what is shaping up to be the most important election in history. The choice, as in 2016, is whether to choose the rule of law or rule by mob. Hillary Clinton embodied the Democrats morality (actually lack of morality). I won’t go over her lies, contradictions and total disconnection with real hard working Americans in this article. What I want to focus on is someone West Virginians, according to the polls, are preparing to reward with another term.

Joe Manchin III, according to (an aggregate poll) is expected to win 52% to 44% over Patrick Morrisey. The most recent notable action Manchin did was to vote for Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation. As we all know President Trump wanted Kavanaugh on SCOTUS and Manchin’s vote helped secure that position. Manchin’s vote made no difference in the outcome as it still would have been a 49-48 victory had he voted “NO”. This was a play to secure your vote that would in no way damage his party.

Most West Virginians are wholesome, hardworking families that just want to earn a decent living. Being fair minded folks it would be disrespectful not to reward Manchin’s vote on SCOTUS with another term as he made the right choice. It would be like encouraging your child to improve their grades and when they finally get a good test score you ground them anyway. The child is confused holding a test paper with an “A” while being told they cannot attend the school dance. Your child will storm off to their room, complaining how unfair the world is. As a parent, you are concerned with the big picture of your child’s education and the whole grading period not just a single test score.

Let’s look at the whole grading period of Joe Manchin III and point out why he needs to be a private citizen again. ( This year he has voted 17 times on the same side as Trump or 78% of the time. Not bad, a “C” on most grade scales. Except that the voters were telling Manchin in 2016 they were on completely Trump’s side. Remember he beat Hillary by 42%. That overwhelming victory should encourage better than a “C”. This is an election year and I wonder if that is influencing an apparent shift towards Trump? Let’s look at the previous grading period from 2017.

There were 57 opportunities to vote in 2017. (Yes, Congress has no real productivity) Good ole’ Joe voted against Trump 45% of the time. Even with West Virginians practically yelling at him “we are in Trump’s camp” he chooses party lines 55% of the time. Understand there are Senators that vote strictly party line 80%-90% of the time so as that goes Joe is somewhat better. Now let’s look at the votes that impacted West Virginian families.

His very first disagreement with Trump and by extension West Virginia, January 12, 2017, was voting NOT to repeal the disastrous Obamacare or Affordable Care Act as it is officially known. This is important because the proposal from the Republicans was to repeal and then replace with a more affordable insurance coverage that would use the open market to keep premiums low. Manchin said “no”. Effectively keeping money out of your pockets and maintaining the status quo of rising premiums and increased profits for the insurance companies. Joe defends his vote using the “pre-existing” condition argument. Meaning if you have an illness prior to obtaining insurance Obamacare requires the insurance to cover that illness. Imagine if your auto insurance worked the same way. You don’t buy till you have a wreck. This is a feel-good defense designed demonstrate how evil Republicans are and how caring Democrats are. Make no mistake when you are forced to purchase something by the government it is a tax no matter the name. Joe had no issues forcing people to buy insurance with Obamacare. As a side note look up the first quarter profits for insurance companies’ profits. That reveals the winner of the ACA. Certainly, it was not the voters.

If you really want health care to be affordable remove government regulations and encourage competition in a free market. Costs only spiral upward when some else is footing the bill. Do you really think aspirin would cost $16.00 a pill if insurance was not covering it? Or perhaps ask Joe about the $69,700 campaign donation from Mylan Inc. a pharmaceutical company that benefits from insurance companies paying for its drugs.

Manchin continued to fight Trump on traditionally non-partisan votes such as Cabinet positions. Thanks to Manchin and the Mob (Democrats) Trump has had more “NO” votes applied to Cabinet posts than any other President since FDR (and he had 12 years). Manchin has 4 “NO” votes on Cabinet officials.

Manchin also votes against putting more money in your wallet. Three different times he has voted against tax reform. The IRS Tax Codes are out of control and simplification is needed as well as a reduction in tax rates. Then again, a guy that lives on a $700,000 yacht while doing public service really cannot fathom the impact of an extra $20 on a weekly pay check.

One last bit of discussion on good ole’ Joe. He currently has, in individual contributions (not including PAC money), $3,186,506.00 that are from OUT OF STATE! ( 88% of his individual donations are not from West Virginia voters!!! Compare this to the total donations (PAC and individual) of Patrick Morrisey. Mr. Morrisey stands at $2,949,126.00. ( Again TOTAL DONATIONS. So, who exactly do you think Joe is representing?

At the dawn of our great country, the town crier, broadsides, pamphlets all were different ways of spreading both news and opinion beyond the publication of a newspaper. Newspapers at the time of our American Revolution numbered around 38 spread across all the colonies. They were generally 4-page editions published weekly and the information could be days, weeks, or months old. These papers averaged a circulation of 600 making their reach about 1 percent of the estimated population in 1776. Each different way of disseminating information was necessary to the keep the population informed of events and to rally the patriots around the goal of independence.

Standing in a well-traveled public area shouting the news to passersby the town crier effectively was a news anchor.  The town crier read legal notices, local bylaws and even advertisements. The town crier would ring a bell to gather attention, shout “hear ye, hear ye” (actually “Oyez, oyez”) and commence reading the notifications of the day.

Printing a broadside and posting it on trees, lampposts, exterior walls and other highly visible areas is exactly what the public at large does on Facebook, Twitter or YouTube today. Broadsides contained current information more so than the newspapers, as well as advertisements and legal notices. Nothing more than a print version of the town crier. Broadsides were designed to be discarded or removed as new information came available.

Pamphlets on the other hand are more detailed and designed to persuade rather than inform. Making them more like a personal blog website in the present era. In fact, many of the pamphlets of the late 1700’s were written under pseudonyms, or screen names if you will.  Many of the heroes of our country used pen names such as Samuel Adams (Candidus, Populus, A Son of Liberty and 22 more), and Alexander Hamilton (Publius, Americanus), Benjamin Franklin (Silence Dogood, Richard Saunders), Robert Livingston (Cato), and James Madison (Helvidius).

Each of these methods of information dissemination was integral to the freedom we now enjoy. In our current society and speed of light news reports we still need each and everyone of the different methods (albeit the modern equivalent listed). We, as a society, must stand and fight against the systemic silencing of voices that don’t follow the leftist dogma promulgated by legacy media and their corporate sponsors.

Facebook, et al. hide behind the “we are a private corporation and don’t have to subscribe to the protections of free speech” facade. As with most laws and court decisions a connect the dots game is required to gain an understanding of how to apply them to a specific situation. Going back to 1980, in Pruneyard Shopping Center v. Robins, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed a California Supreme Court decision recognizing that California’s Constitution protected the right of high school students to gather signatures at a privately-owned shopping center for a petition objecting to a United Nations resolution that said Zionism was a form of racism.  In other words, the public square had shifted. The public no longer gathered in the town square but moved to privately owned shopping places with common areas for the public. These common areas were viewed as the modern town square.

Fast forward to 2017 and a case involving restricting a registered sex offender from the internet in general. In that case the Court declared the Internet to be one of the traditional “quintessential forums” of public exchange of ideas, such as streets or parks. Keeping the sex offender off the internet deprived him of information like learning of a job opening or even applying for a job. He could not register a product for warranty, educate himself, check his bank account or any of the other mundane tasks done via the internet. His offense took place in 2002 and he had long paid for his crime by serving time but because of North Carolina’s laws regarding a sex offender the internet was off limits. While acknowledging the depravity of the crimes committed by any registered sex offender, the US Supreme Court concluded that “to foreclose access to social media altogether is to prevent the user from engaging in the legitimate exercise of First Amendment rights.” Of course, this prevention was at the behest of the NC state government. However, it is not a far leap to conclude a ban from social media by a corporation is also designed “to prevent the user from engaging in the legitimate exercise of First Amendment rights.”

We now have, thus far, created a dot of ‘private business property can be considered public square’ and a second dot of ‘state governments cannot prevent an individual from accessing and using the internet under the First Amendment’. The final dot that will make a complete picture is not legal ruling or written law bit something that is unfortunately in short supply – common sense. Facebook and Google (owner of YouTube) have in the past pitted one state against another for the best tax breaks and other tax considerations when they look to build server farms and other corporate infrastructure. This year Facebook was granted $150 million in tax breaks over twenty years for employing a whopping 50 people in a new facility in Utah. Just as a reminder, in the first quarter of this year FB had $12 BILLION in revenue.

Let’s connect the dots and finish the whole picture. If a state government grants tax breaks and other considerations to encourage a business to build within their specific state couldn’t a savvy lawyer point out that those tax breaks and considerations mean the government by default supports the operating guidelines and disciplinary actions of said corporation? By allowing Facebook to ban a person that has otherwise broken no laws the government effectively has done two things. They have passed on their authority to discipline (arrest, fine, ticket etc.) citizens based on a corporate decision rather than law AND the state has allowed this action without benefit of due process.  Corporate tyranny, anyone?

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube have banned over a dozen right and far-right voices in the last three weeks. A few days ago, MasterCard has joined the fray refusing to process donations on Patreon for The owner for has written 18 books and led seminars on Islam for the FBI, the United States Central Command, United States Army Command and General Staff College, the U.S. Army’s Asymmetric Warfare Group, the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), the Justice Department’s Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council and the U.S. intelligence community. Obviously not a “hate filled nut case”. This decision effectively makes MasterCard a tyrannical dictator basing a decision on half-truths and out and out lies. The aim of the ban is to prevent donations that support the website. These bans have little to with hate filled rants or dangerous ideas. They are designed to cut off cash flow and cripple voices that lean to the right. If an outright ban can’t be rationalized, then strikes or other slaps that curtail views and thus ad revenue. Underfunded sites then self-censor content hoping not to get completely banned. For the liberal left only two things matter power and money. Anyone that states opposing views must be a fascist and a Nazi and therefore must be silenced, no proof necessary.

The midterms are around 10 weeks away. In that time there will more attacks on conservative voices, liberals specifically are harassing known conservatives. Antifa and other harassment orientated groups are flagging conservative content in mass. (Facebook’s Zuckerberg admitted this in the case of Alex Jones and admitted he made the decision to ban Jones anyway) We, as conservatives, can’t wear a MAGA hat without fear of physical abuse. We can’t state opposition to liberal positions without the threat of losing our platforms on social media. We can’t even eat in a restaurant if we are recognized as Trump supporters. Candice Owens and Sarah Sanders can attest to that.

Think about those folks and the patriots that fought for our rights when you whip out that MasterCard branded debit card to pay for your Starbucks Latte. Be thankful you aren’t wearing a MAGA hat. Keep your conservative light under the bushel at least then you won’t have to wonder who will shove a bull horn in your face and scream like a banshee hoping to goad you into taking a swing. For me I’ll follow the advice of Captain John Parker when he was at the Battle of Lexington in 1775.

Bill Moore: Fake News and the War on the Press

15 Aug

August 15, 2018

Over 100 newspapers from around the country are colluding to spread propaganda concerning our President, Donald Trump. Strong words, “collusion” and “propaganda”. They create images of spies or criminals in dark alleyways planning illegal activities. Or perhaps dropping leaflets or posting flyers giving a positive slant to an intolerable government.  In this case those words may not be strong enough.

On August 16th, 2018 at the behest of the Boston Globe the above mentioned 100 plus newspapers will run editorials denouncing what the Globe called a ‘‘dirty war against the free press.’’ We have all seen and heard the President call out different legacy media outlets as “fake news” or “failed such and such magazine”. Being called “fake news” is a far cry from a war on the “free press”. At no time has President Trump called for the destruction of the free press or the First Amendment which protects both free speech and free press. In other words, each newspaper that runs an editorial stating Trump has declared war on the press is creating more “fake news”. Basically, another day and another lie by the legacy media.

Collusion is defined has a “secret agreement undertaken for illicit or fraudulent purposes; conspiracy”. I will bet none of the papers will mention the editorials they publish were encouraged by The Boston Globe and “industry groups such as the American Society of News Editors and regional groups like the New England Newspaper and Press Association.” These groups encouraged all papers to unite against the “war” regardless of their own generalized editorial support or opposition of Trump’s policies.  That comment in and of itself is comical as Trump only receives 10% positive news coverage according to the Washington Times. Even Pew Research indicates Trump has double the negative press of Obama, Bill Clinton or George W Bush.

I highly doubt any paper actively supports our President in a meaningful way or with enough readership to matter. Given our improving status around the world, lower taxes, lower unemployment and improved GDP, why exactly is the news always so negative?

Propaganda according to my trusty dictionary is “information or statements of opinion that are deliberately circulated among the public to persuade the population to accept a particular point of view, esp. one in favor of or opposed to a particular movement, cause, or doctrine”. Clearly any editorial opinion is propaganda if it means to portray a situation or event in a manner to garner support for said opinion.

By collectively publishing editorials this week these newspapers are engaging in propaganda designed to convince the public that Donald Trump has declared war on the press and by extension the U.S. Constitution.

Calling a report “fake” or standing up for yourself and defending your reputation is a far cry from declaring war. War by its very nature must have some type of destruction. There has been no damage to the freedom of the press other than the self-inflicted variety. One could argue with all the un-named sources, uncorroborated tell all books and out right fiction published as news on an hourly basis, that the legacy media is doing a bang-up job of waging war against the First Amendment. In a real-world war propaganda is used to either by enemies of the state to inform the citizenry at large the current leadership is corrupt or by the state itself to defend its own policies drumming up support.

Next is for each side to repeat the lies until they are believed by enough people one way or the other. Once a critical mass of duped people is achieved, let the revolution (or impeachment ) begin.

The propaganda publishing newspapers include the Houston Chronicle, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Miami Herald, and Denver Post, to small weekly papers with circulations as low as 4,000. I believe this group of editorials will make the rounds of TV news shows as well. They may even try to pass all the different editorials off an organic “just kind of happened” movement.

Make no mistake this is a plan to further erode support of Trump and by association Republicans in the upcoming mid-term election. The legacy media is trying to neuter Trump’s impact on close races. All knowledgeable accounts indicate Trump rallies turned the tide for the Ohio race in favor of Republicans. Trumps coattails are proving to be strong. This has the Democrats and the left leaning media worried.

It is imperative Americans stay informed, support and protect each other while ferreting out the lies, fake news and propaganda running 24 hours a day on pretend news channels.

Bill Moore: Local Decision; National Pattern

Is free speech being suppressed by the very institutions that benefit from the First Amendment?  Locally?  For what purpose?

Bill Moore is a businessman, author, and conservative columnist.  Originally from Ashland, KY. Bill spent the summers of his formative years playing in the hills and coal mines of rural Eastern Kentucky.  He believes in smaller government, the free market and is a fiscal conservative. Free State Patriot welcomes Bill as a regular contributor in the fight to support our nation’s founding principles and expose the progressive movement.

“You can have everything you want in life… If you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

~ Zig Ziglar / Bill Moore

Alex Jones, Candice Owens, Elizabeth Heng, Diamond and Silk, Herman Cain and our own Mark Caserta. What do these people have in common? De-platforming, temporary bans and shadow banning. Each has been actively limited by a publisher(platform) for their opinions. Conversely Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Antifa each post encouragement to harass conservatives or actively encourage fighting and disobeying law enforcement, yet their accounts remain active and often trend higher than conservative posts on the exact same subject matter.

Let’s examine for a moment the bans each person listed above has endured. Alex Jones, far right shock jock, was de-platformed from SIX major sites in just over 24 hours. (Apple iTunes, Spotify, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest and LinkedIn) Candice Owens, African-American conservative, was banned on Twitter for 12 hours when she copied and posted Tweets from a radical left journalist replacing the word “white’ with “black” and “Jew” but otherwise leaving the Tweets intact. Elizabeth Heng, Vietnamese-American conservative running for election, had an ad banned on Facebook that described her family dealing with Communist Vietnam. Both Diamond and Silk and Herman Cain, African-American conservative broadcasters, have been shadow banned on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Of course, readers of this blog know Mark Caserta and what the Herald Dispatch did to him.

The most common reason for bans and de-platforming are listed as violations the term and conditions (vague community standards) of said web platform. Just like the movie “Animal House” these content creators were on “double secret probation” while Facebook, Apple Et al gathered enough information to decide whether silencing them would negatively impact the bottom line. Once they felt the bottom line was safe good bye conservative leaning voices.

Shadow bans are more insidious. The person can login and post as normal. However, the platform limits the reach of the post, giving it lower ranking in searches and not allowing subscriber notifications to notify. For example, Diamond and Silk post a video and expect a certain number of views based proportionally on the number of subscribers. When shadow banned they reach fewer people than expected and thus make less revenue from advertisers, get fewer clicks for merchandise sales and cannot grow their channel or follower base.

Even bans that get lifted like in the case of Candice Owens hurt because the optimum widow for the message has passed and is now “old news” as the fickle public has moved on to a new crisis of the moment.

Mark’s situation could be considered different as it involves a physical publication with limited print real estate. However, the situation can be used to demonstrate how social media is really a publisher as opposed to a neutral platform. The Herald Dispatch terminated its working relationship with a “token” conservative over what was termed as the “newspaper’s best interest”, similarly themed articles and a lack of local subject matter. As distasteful as the decision is they have the right to act as they see fit. Just like we as consumers have the right to terminate subscriptions to the Herald Dispatch and stop patronizing its very few advertisers.

We also have the right to contact said advertisers and voice our displeasure over them supporting a business that actively silences conservative speech.

The main stream media (newspaper, radio and TV), more accurately defined as “legacy” media pushes a general narrative that leans left of center. How far left is dependent on the outlet ownership and sponsors. Even the right leaning Fox News slants stories, limits facts and editorializes “news”. Do not misunderstand Fox News adds balance to the vast liberal ramblings that pass as “news” in modern journalism, but they are also complicit in adding opinion to facts and calling it news. “News” reporting in and of itself should be like the old TV court drama oath: “Promise to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”

Remember when news shows ended with an anchors opinion and even warned viewers saying, “what follows is an editorial opinion”? In today’s era of 24-hour news every opinion, every headline must be sensationalized to keep viewers tuned in. Sponsors demand a return on their advertising dollars. Clicks, views and eyes are the measurements that matter for a news channel not clear presentation of facts. Remember legacy media outlets are businesses and businesses must make a profit to continue.

You see, the social media giants hide behind “we are a platform and don’t exercise editorial control over posts” thus “we can’t be sued when an individual defames or slanders someone”. They can’t be held responsible when someone like Maxine Waters encourages harassment or threatens the President. If the bans are given across the board, regardless of ideology, the websites would be correct. However, a strong case can be made showing the social media platforms do, in fact, only target conservative opinions.  Any ambulance chasing lawyer can connect the dots and tear down the platform vs publisher veil of protection. If the website publishers are not held accountable we will soon see “community standards” banning Joel Osteen or your local church because someone finds the doctrine offensive.

I find it ironic that Mark Caserta was silenced locally for writing on national subjects when nationally the debate is raging on silencing all conservatives. What impacts the nation impacts West Virginia and West Virginia can influence the nation.

Silencing Mark right before a mid-term election, as well as silencing other conservative voices smacks of collusion and election tampering. You don’t have to change votes or have ghost ballots to “fix” an election, just keep spreading fake news and silence the opposition.
