Mark Caserta: It’s time to re-open the WV GOP Primaries

1 Aug
The dynamics have changed. It’s time to allow independent-minded voters to make their voices heard in the GOP primary elections.

Roughly 1/3 of registered voters in West Virginia align with Independent or a party outside of the 2 major parties.

They exceed the percentage of registered Democrats now.

The dynamics have changed. People are upset with both major parties and are aligning with Independent voters.

We must re-open the GOP primaries.

We can’t disenfranchise these voters and expect them to vote GOP in the general election.

In fact, Independents who showed up to vote Republican were automatically given a Democrat ballot in some polling locations.

Originally I agreed with the concept of a closed primary,

Times have changed. We must change with them if we expect to win.
