The election of Donald Trump to president of the United States has been a gift that kept on giving to the American people throughout 2017.

Recently, the Washington Examiner ran a column by Paul Bedard titled, “Year One List: 81 major Trump achievements, 11 Obama legacy items repealed.” I’d like to share a few from the impressive list.

As a top priority, Donald Trump has worked toward protecting the U.S. homeland. Illegal immigration on the U.S.-Mexico border is “the lowest in 17 years,” per border authorities. The progress he’s making toward building the border wall with Mexico and cracking down on sanctuary cities will spur even greater impact.

President Trump successfully has prosecuted the war against ISIS, empowering commanders with the weaponry and authority needed to defeat the enemy. The coalition against ISIS has recaptured over 95 percent of its previously held territory and the Islamic caliphate has been seriously crippled.

The president has pursued a “peace through strength” strategy by rebuilding our military and revitalizing partnerships with our allies. President Trump recently acquired an additional $21 billion in Department of Defense funding to address “urgent readiness shortfalls.”

Fulfilling his campaign pledge to American families, President Trump’s policies have greatly impacted jobs and the economy. For the first time in over 10 years, our nation’s GDP is growing above 3 percent, unemployment has been cut to 4.1 percent and 1.7 million new jobs have been created.

The recent passage of tax reform provided $5.5 billion in tax cuts for Americans and repealed the Obamacare individual mandate, which effectually will defund Obamacare and eventually eliminate the healthcare debacle. Consumer confidence is at a 17-year high while the Dow Jones continues to set records.

President Trump has eliminated job-killing regulations, demanding two regulations be killed for every new one created. He far exceeded that expectation in 2017, with 16 regulations being cut for each new one, saving $8.1 billion. He withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, ending the threat of overreaching, fruitless environmental regulations.

The president’s gift to our area was ending Obama’s war on coal and returning jobs to coal-producing states. In pursuit of U.S. energy independence, President Trump expanded energy infrastructure projects like the Keystone XL and the Dakota Access pipelines, which were snubbed by Obama.

In his fight to preserve life, President Trump reinstated and expanded the Mexico City Policy which requires foreign non-governmental organizations to certify they won’t “perform or actively promote abortion as a method of family planning” as a condition for receiving U.S. global family assistance funding.

And not only did Trump deliver a conservative Supreme Court justice, Neil Gorsuch, to our highest court, he nominated 73 federal judges cut from the same “conservative cloth”!

The list goes on, my friends.

But the “list” doesn’t matter to liberals. They’ll never applaud these accomplishments for America. Does their hatred of Trump eclipse their love of country?

Regardless, President Trump keeps winning for Americans and restoring respect for our nation across the globe.

Stay focused on the mission, Mr. President. America loves a winner!

Liberals have lost all grasp of reality: Idiot protests Trump by yelling at his Disney Robot.

Trump Derangement Syndrome claimed another victim after a former executive assistant at NBC decided to “protest” the president by yelling at his animatronic robot doll during a show at Disney World.

The video clip shows Jay Malsky repeatedly screaming “lock him up” at the Trump robot while other audience members, probably concerned about their frightened children, tell him to shut up.

One of the audience members informs Malsky that he is literally yelling at a robot, telling him, “He’s not real!”

“I protested @realDonaldTrump at the #hallofpresidents cuz I’ll never get this close in real life probs. #lockhimup,” tweeted Malsky, eliciting a barrage of ridicule.

Malsky doubled down on his idiocy, suggesting that his protest was legitimate because Disney is a public institution as it’s a “publicly traded company”.

“You don’t know the difference between a publicly traded company and private property. Neat,” one user responded.

“Awful. I can’t imagine how scared and confused some of those children were,” commented another Twitter user.

In a tweet that he subsequently deleted, Malsky posted a picture of the Trump robot and remarked, “Mmmmmk. Are we allowed to say that we want to murder this?”

Do Americans really believe politics is being poisoned by some form of conservative “manipulation” or “influencing” of the mind, perhaps a Jedi mind trick?

Laughably, if conservatives had that ability, we would certainly use “the force” to rehabilitate liberals.

But rest assured, it’s only liberals and the complicit mainstream media with the necessary presence to impact a nation’s sentiment to the degree some would suggest. If not for conservative Christians, Donald Trump would never have been elected president of the United States. Christians are the one demographic liberals will never capture in their exploited net.

Allow me to expound.

Have you ever noticed in multiple liberal news outlets you often hear similar terminology, phrases or “talking points”? This is often a result of shared information in a process called “collective intelligence.”

Collective intelligence, as described in the Financial Times lexicon, is a social media term used to describe a “shared” intelligence or viewpoint that “emerges from collaboration and competition of many individuals” which appears on social networks designed to “solve a problem.” In this case, the problem is conservatism.

In fairness, not all similar stories in the mainstream media are the result of “collaboration” but are simply the result of a shared ideology. Sadly, since the 2016 presidential election, some media outlets even seem willing to bypass certain standards of journalism just to be able to report a “hit piece” on our president or his supporters, only to have to retract the report.

Unfortunately, some retractions are severely “underreported” compared to the original piece.

Please understand, there are some terrific news outlets with some accurate reporting. But the unprincipled ones impact our ability to know who to believe – which is poisoning politics far greater than any “conservative collusion.”

A study by Harvard University’s Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy looked at the media coverage of President Trump, and the results were very telling.

Now, Harvard is certainly not a conservative institution. But the study found that in Trump’s first 100 days in office, the tone of the news coverage of the president was a whopping 80 percent negative compared with 20 percent positive. That, my friend, is truly an attempt to “influence.”

CNN and NBC struck a 93 percent negative tone on their Trump stories, with only 7 percent positive. CBS was third in the anti-Trump race, with a 91 to 9 ratio, per the study. The same study showed Fox News was 52 percent negative to 48 percent positive.

Here’s what to expect in 2018 and beyond:

As the disconnect continues to grow between liberal assertions of Trump’s failures and the reality of his successes for the American people, there will be a huge decline in voters’ perception of the integrity of the mainstream media. The most obvious and embarrassing reporting, to date, was the liberal media’s assertion that Hillary Clinton was a lock for president.

Talk about a liberal media “air ball.”

So, be vigilant and responsive to tactics designed to deceive you.

And understand, conservatives aren’t the ones using smoke and mirrors.

Mark Caserta: Christmas an opportune time to reflect on the chains we’ve forged

Just a few days away from the most magical day of the year, I find myself reflecting on the lyrics from the first stanza of John Lennon’s 1971 Christmas song, “So this is Christmas.”

“So, this is Christmas. And what have you done? Another year over. And a new one just begun.”

This question is particularly thought-provoking for those who’ve been engaged this year in the state of our country, our city and our fellow man. Regardless of your political or religious persuasion, I think most would agree we’ve seen an unparalleled level of quarreling and animosity among people this year.

A few years back I wrote a Christmas column entitled, “Perhaps we should reflect on the chains we’ve forged.” I keep a copy with our Christmas decorations. Each year, when my wife has me carry the decorations upstairs for her to magically transform our home for the holidays, I’m greeted by the newspaper clipping resting in “mechanical” Santa’s lap!

Here’s a modified excerpt from my 2013 column.

The brilliance and imagery of the Charles Dickens classic, “A Christmas Carol,” offers a timeless reflection of the magical consequences of human kindness.

Of his tale, Dickens wrote, “I have endeavored in this Ghostly little book, to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their houses pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it.”

And “haunt” us it has for over 170 years with its sustained relevance for mankind and its sobering look at the sanctity and opportunity of life.

Ebenezer Scrooge was a man, lost within his own maize of anxiety, stripped of his compassion for others whose significance diminished as his wealth grew.

Yet, while unworthy of his journey of recompense, Scrooge was given an opportunity to witness the chains he forged in life from the third person as he was led on a journey by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come.

I can only surmise Dickens chose Christmas as the setting of his tale of repentance because of the depth of purpose he envisioned it had for his fellow man and the opportunity it offered for reflecting upon one’s life choices.

I believe, however, Dickens is prompting us to invoke similar introspection.

How would your journey fare with the three apparitions? What chains have you forged?

Life’s choices in today’s world are exceedingly complex and follow a path dimly lit and laden with distractions unique to our times.

Ebenezer Scrooge had some ghostly mentors to influence change in his life and Dickens ensured his tale allowed Scrooge to alter his future.

Unfortunately, none of us have Dicken’s script guaranteeing our life tomorrow. And all too often we find ourselves wishing we’d made better choices or extended unselfish, random gifts of kindness to others.

I suggest using Christmas, as Dickens did, to reflect upon the chains we may have forged in life and begin working toward reducing the links.

Mark Caserta: DOJ to investigate Planned Parenthood

The abortion of an innocent, unborn child is a dagger in the heart of God’s gift of life to His children. It’s unfathomable continuation stabs deeply into man’s flesh, leaving behind a wound defiled with the blood of the most unblemished among us.

One hundred years ago, Margaret Sanger, an advocate for women’s reproductive rights and a vocal eugenics enthusiast, opened her first birth-control clinic in the United States and founded an organization known as Planned Parenthood.

Per The Heritage Foundation, today Planned Parenthood offers a “wide range” of women’s health care as justification for taxpayers providing more than 40 percent of their funding. Data show that Planned Parenthood is now the country’s largest abortion provider with affiliates performing more than 300,000 abortions per year and has become an organization deeply embedded in controversy.

Per reports from multiple news organizations, including The New York Times, the Justice Department recently launched a federal investigation into Planned Parenthood’s abortion practices and the sale of fetal tissue derived from abortions – for profit.

In a letter, reportedly first obtained by Fox News last month, Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs Stephen Boyd has formally requested unredacted documents from the committee who led the congressional probe into the women’s health organization following a 2015 undercover operation by activists David Daleiden, and Sandra Merritt, of the pro-life Center for Medical Progress.

During the investigation, both Daleiden and Merritt recorded undercover video while posing as researchers interested in purchasing fetal tissues from Planned Parenthood. The request for the information was made to the same Senate Judiciary Committee, whose chairman, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, referred Planned Parenthood, along with other providers to the FBI for investigation last December, according to The Hill.

Like millions of Americans, I had opportunity to view many of the undercover videos produced during the investigation and found them nothing short of horrifying. I was sickened my tax dollars were helping support this wretched practice which has been essentially ignored over the years by Democrats and Republicans alike.

In a statement to Fox News, Daleiden provided some details on the videos and shared investigative findings.

“After Planned Parenthood’s top doctors were caught on camera casually negotiating the sale of aborted baby hearts, lungs, livers and brains, two congressional investigations confirmed there were ‘systematic’ violations of federal law in Planned Parenthood’s aborted baby parts business,” he said. “The FBI’s investigation of Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer-funded, criminal abortion enterprise is long overdue.”

Planned Parenthood vehemently denies the allegations brought about by the undercover video. And while it’s true Daleiden and Merritt were indicted in 2016 on a felony charge of tampering with a governmental record, it was related to presenting a fake California driver’s license with the intent to defraud, and had nothing to do with the video content, per The New York Times.

Today’s abortion ideology is a result of progressivism working to expand “choice” in every area of our lives. Tragically, the unborn are paying the ultimate price.

May God convict our hearts and give us wisdom as we fight to end this madness.

Mark Caserta: DOJ should consider some factual Russian collusion

For nearly a year, liberals have been frantically attempting to delegitimize the presidency of Donald J. Trump by asserting American voters somehow fell victim to the influence of “evil” Russians who wanted Trump to win and Hillary to lose.

It lacks credulity at face value! Whose ideology aligns more closely with Vladimir Putin, the socialist rationale of Hillary or the capitalist conviction of Trump?

To date, liberal Democrats have failed to produce any evidence that even a single vote was fraudulently impacted by the Russians. And special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into this progressive pipe dream has cost taxpayers over $5 million thus far, per a report by Pierre Thomas of ABC News.

Liberals are repulsed by President Trump because he’s committed to negating the failed policies of the previous administration. Unlike his predecessor, he lacks the willingness to appease his enemies or apologize for his country. His performance isn’t a factor in moving the liberal “hate-ometer.” He could perform superbly for Americans, and progressives would still hate him.

Frankly, the futility of the fight makes one wonder about the patriotism of a faction of people willing to vigorously pursue the demise of an individual and possibly themselves over the success of their nation. Once again, I’m reminded of those famous final words of Captain Ahab in Herman Melville’s “Moby-Dick”:

“Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee.”

The emotional, nonsensical nature of this quote just seems befitting of progressives.

Factually, when one considers how liberals have turned a blind eye to verifiable acts of Russian collusion by their peers, it makes the accusations against Trump laughable. For posterity’s sake, let’s reverse roles in some of the liberal-Russian interactions over the past few years.

Imagine, for a moment, the mainstream media’s reaction to a “hot mic” inadvertently picking up President Trump’s conversation with outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev relaying that Vladimir Putin should “give him more space” and that after his re-election Trump would have “more flexibility,” as happened with President Obama.

Suppose President Trump gave Russia control of approximately 20 percent of U.S. uranium capacity and in turn received $2.35 million in donations to the Donald J. Trump Foundation, as happened with Obama and the Clinton Foundation. And supplemental to the deal, the FBI gathered evidence that Russian nuclear industry officials were engaging in bribery, kickbacks, extortion and money laundering inside the U.S. as reported by The New York Times.

And suppose, germane to the Uranium One deal, Melania Trump delivered a speech to a Russian bank, promoting Uranium One stock and received $500,000, as happened with Bill Clinton.

Liberals would be calling for Trump’s immediate removal from office and subsequent prosecution for treason.

I’m convinced liberal allegations against Trump were a premeditated diversion from the real Russian collusion that transpired under the Obama administration.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions should launch an immediate counter-investigation.

Mark Caserta: What’s wrong with returning America to greatness?

Despite what the mainstream media and liberals would have you believe, there is no anti-Trump “wave” throughout our country from previous supporters. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

Rather than a “wave” against the president, the president’s increasing number of wins has gone so far as to solidify and broaden his base of supporters.

And conservatives certainly aren’t dissuaded by the liberal meltdown over their unsettling loss in the 2016 presidential election. It’s sad they keep allowing it to fuel their flames of discontent to the point they can’t seem to rationalize what’s good for America!

In a single year, Donald Trump has successfully negated a large portion of the damage caused by the Obama administration by doing exactly what he promised his constituents – win on behalf of the American people!

America is beginning to win at home with people going back to work. I’m encouraged as I travel through the coalfields of West Virginia, Kentucky and Pennsylvania and see coal trucks and barges, once again, filled with coal for transport. And while the labor participation rate is still way too low, we’re well on our way to jobs recovery with the unemployment rate falling to 4.3 percent, a 17-year low, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Remarkably, per an August column in Breitbart by John Carney, the American economy has added more than 1 million jobs since President Donald Trump took office, despite economists predicting a job slump this year. Carney reports that America has added more than 200,000 jobs in four of Trump’s first six months in office!

Even an August column in CNN Money, by Chris Isidore, confirms the economy created an average of 179,000 new jobs in each of the first six months of Trump’s presidency – far better than his predecessor’s first six months, when 3.4 million jobs were lost!

Illegal immigration along the U.S.Mexico border is also declining at an amazing rate. In March, the Border Patrol recorded 12,193 apprehensions at the Southwest border, the lowest in 17 years, per the Border Patrol and confirmed by Politifact. And Trump hasn’t even built the wall yet!

It simply required a decisive, unwavering stance on illegal immigration by a leader who values sovereignty and safety over a voter base dependent upon the hands that feed them. It’s really that simple.

So, why does America returning to greatness annoy liberal Democrats and the GOP establishment? Why would these Trump naysayers be willing to cripple the presidency of Donald Trump when doing so would be harmful to most Americans?

Sadly, for many of these career politicians, politics have become so entrenched in winning for the party, that the needs of the American people don’t seem to factor into the equation. In what world would we hire them to fight against lowering taxes and reducing illegal immigration?

The “swamp” is still very deep and crawling with loathsome varmints. Electing Donald Trump was the first step toward draining it dry. Rest assured, he will be calling on voters to play an integral role in expediting the process.

Mark Caserta: What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

One of the most sacred principles in our American criminal justice system is the presumption of innocence until a defendant is proven guilty.

The requirement, according to Wex Legal Dictionary, is “the prosecution prove beyond a reasonable doubt every element of a crime to convict a defendant,” and is granted by the due process clauses of the Fifth and Fourteenth amendments.

Sadly, the politicization of nearly every aspect of our lives, bolstered by the mainstream media’s desire to mold public sentiment, has reduced the presumption of innocence statute to “what best serves political expediency.”

Frankly, the double standard to which liberals and the GOP establishment adhere would be laughable, if not tragic for the victims of this dereliction of duty.

Case in point is the travesty of journalism offered by reporter Stephanie McCrummen of The Washington Post when earlier this month she made public the allegations that Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore fondled a 14-year-old girl and pursued at least three other teenage girls decades ago as an assistant district attorney in the state of Alabama.

Per the Post, McCrummen was in Alabama as part of her paper’s coverage of the Senate race. She recently explained the genesis of the story to NPR.

“I was in Alabama actually reporting another story on Roy Moore supporters, a story aiming to understand, you know, the basis of his support in the state,” McCrummen said. “And it was at the end of a long conversation with someone there that these allegations surfaced.”

Why do you suppose a liberal reporter from The Washington Post would travel to Alabama to cover another state’s Senate race? Does anyone really think McCrummen’s intent was to report on the race or simply to scavenge skeletons in Moore’s closet and derail the chances of another conservative joining the Senate ranks?

So, a man’s career is virtually on the brink of destruction resulting from a newspaper story, based on unsubstantiated evidence, simply because he’s conservative.

Sadly, this appears to be the new evidentiary standard for the progressive movement in assaulting conservatives.

So, how does one intellectualize the major liberal media coverage of Bill Clinton, the assaulter-in-chief, when he faced multiple allegations of misconduct, both as Arkansas governor and POTUS? Clinton was confronted with multiple allegations of sexual misconduct from women like Kathleen Willey, Juanita Broaddrick, Kathy Shelton and Paula Jones.

While the media, liberals and the GOP establishment conduct themselves in support of the women accusers in Alabama and call for Moore to step aside from his Senate candidacy, Clinton’s accusers were berated and humiliated in the court of public opinion.

Irrespective of your political leaning, our country is teetering on the edge of judicial disaster if we succumb to this disregard for the presumption of innocence simply because it supports our political aspirations. Our judicial system would collapse beneath the weight of political jurisprudence!

Due process, afforded every individual by the Constitution, must be paramount in our list of protected rights. And the rule of law mustn’t be forsaken to propagate any political ideology.

 

Mark Caserta: Uranium One relevant to US-Russia relations

After a full year of Donald Trump as president, the “swamp water” in Washington is indeed beginning to recede, exposing deplorables in both political parties.

In an ironic turn of events, it would seem the Russian-Trump “collusion” apparition, which Democrats have vigorously labored to propagate (without a shred of evidence) has morphed into a Russian-Clinton collusion investigation in which evidence is quickly mounting.

Despite the liberal, mainstream media virtually ignoring the so-called “Uranium One” scandal, it appears it may have been integral to Russia, indeed, conspiring to influence our 2016 presidential election, but not as progressives would have you believe.

So, what is the relevance of the Uranium One deal?

In 2013, as reported by news outlets like Fox News and CNN, a Russian company, ROSATOM, acquired a Canadian uranium mining company, now called Uranium One, which has uranium assets in the U.S. The deal, approved by the Obama administration, reportedly gave Russia control of about 20 percent of U.S. uranium capacity.

Per their website, “The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM is one of the global technological leaders and one of the largest companies of the Russian Federation and largest taxpayers of the country.” It acquires nuclear power assets, mining approximately 3,000 tons of uranium domestically and is the largest electricity generating company in Russia, owning a large portfolio of foreign construction projects, including some in nations hostile to the U.S.

Now, liberal Democrats insist we should “move on, there’s nothing to see here,” based on the assertion the deal doesn’t allow any of the acquired uranium to leave the U.S. But that’s not to say Russia and her benefactors won’t profit from the deal.

Two weeks ago, as reported in a column by Adam Kredo, of The Washington Free Beacon, a Russian atomic energy corporation announced it has formally begun construction of a second nuclear power plant in Bushehr, Iran. This new plant, dubbed Bushehr-2, will be supplemental to the first plant Russia built for Iran in 2011, and will be equipped with the latest nuclear technology, per reports in Russia-controlled media.

Under Obama’s Iran nuclear deal, signed in 2015, Iran is permitted to construct new nuclear reactors and plants. So, guess who will be handling the deal to build the nuclear reactors in Iran? Russia’s ROSATOM corporation!

Beyond the obvious, potential collusion here, per recent reports in The Hill, the FBI has been reviewing the Uranium One agreement and uncovered some Russian nuclear industry officials engaging in nefarious dealings, to include extortion, bribery and political kickbacks, with possible connections to our old friends Hillary and Bill Clinton.

The House Oversight Committee is now reportedly considering investigating whether any criminal activity occurred regarding the Clinton-Russian connection. And CNS News reports that uranium mining deals in Kazakhstan, multimillion-dollar donations to the Clinton Foundation, and the U.S. government’s approved sale of Uranium One to a Russian state-owned company are now under investigation by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

With the political pendulum swinging the other way, what will further abatement of the murky swamp reveal? Time will tell, but it doesn’t look good for progressives.

Mark Caserta: American Dream is within reach once again

The so-called American Dream is something to which most people have aspired at some point in their life. While it means something different to everyone, its pursuit is something our Founding Fathers felt was worth protecting.

The Declaration of Independence states early in its text, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

Conservatives consider this particularly important because we believe our rights truly come from God, not man. Yet, the ever fallible man often seems to overvalue these rights for ourselves while undervaluing them for others. I’m dismayed at the lack of engagement by individuals in societal issues until they’re impacted directly. This sort of short-sightedness has allowed the progressive movement far too much success in America.

In fact, I submit the American Dream, which for many of us includes the freedom to worship, honor our flag and pray to our God, all openly, has been desperately attacked by those whose progressive dream lacks these virtues. And if eight years of the Obama administration taught us nothing else, we learned how quickly even the mightiest of nations will falter beneath the weight of liberal leaders with socialist tendencies.

For some retrospection, I recently read a 2014 column by Simone Pathe, of “PBS NewsHour,” titled “Why half of U.S. adults no longer believe in the American dream.” The column shared data collected at the time by the annual American Values Survey showing nearly half of Americans, who once believed in the American Dream (defined as the belief that if you work hard, you’ll get ahead), thought it no longer existed.

Fast-forward to a column last week by Samantha Smith of the Pew Research Center titled “Most think the ‘American dream’ is within reach for them,” which revealed an entirely different, optimistic perspective. This column stated that despite persistently “low levels of public satisfaction” with the state of the nation, most Americans (82 percent) believe they’ve achieved the American Dream or are on their way to achieving it.

The state of the union and the mindset toward achieving the American Dream is dramatically improving per every economic indicator under the Trump administration. Unemployment is falling, manufacturing is returning to the U.S., the stock market is at an all-time high, GDP is on the incline, the EPA is being reined in, our enemies once again fear us while our allies are learning to trust us again, and our military is regaining global prominence.

Despite these facts, liberals seem to be working frantically to keep our focus elsewhere. Don’t forget, the same people who are trying to convince you President Trump’s approval ratings are tanking are the same ones who told you Hillary would win in a landslide!

Liberals may choose to reverie in their progressive nightmare, but most Americans are enlivened by the new spirit we’ve embraced as a nation.

The American Dream is once again reality.
