Mark Caserta: Politicians should constrain themselves to representation, not personal ideology.

Mark Caserta is a resident of Wayne County, WV. and has been a conservative columnist for 25 years.

While many so-called politicians have forgotten their primary duty of representation, the Democrat Party has one foot in the grave and the other on thin ice when it comes to maintaining their legitimacy.

It is unfathomable that in our Republic form of government, (in which citizens vote for individuals whose job is solely to represent their constituents in government) the so-called “representatives” would choose to represent the 20 percent “radical” ideology of an issue rather than the clear majority of voters!

These are the current “hills” Democrats have been willing to die on! It is quite remarkable when you tally all of the lunacy!

Democrats support open borders – period. Come one, come all. Just be sure you vote for the hand that feeds you with taxpayer dollars. They are willing to provide housing, healthcare and all the amenities for anyone willing to come to the U.S. and help keep them in power.

Democrats are against requiring any proof of citizenship prior to being allowed to vote. Why? The answer, once again, can only be they want illegals to be complicit in their fight to stay in power.

Democrats fight for the rights of illegal aliens, to include terrorist groups like MS-13 and Tren de Aragua while absolutely ignoring the rights of American citizens, such as Rachael Morin, Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, each horrifically murdered by illegals in our country. Liberal Democrats refuse to even mention their names in the conversation.

Democrats are against the deportation of criminal illegal aliens and have even traveled to El Salvador in an attempt to initiate the return of one such confirmed member of a terrorist organization. They spend their time and your money attempting to stop President Trump from doing what he promised he would do, at the risk of American lives and safety. Liberal judges have even gone as far as order plane load of illegals returned to our country!

Democrats are against lowering your taxes. In fact, they want to raise your taxes! This is particularly egregious considering the amount of waste, fraud and abuse DOGE uncovered.

Democrats are against the aforementioned, Department of Government Efficiency! Why? Clearly, it’s because they were being shown and feckless, inefficient boobs who were more focused on becoming millionaires on your dime than they were making American great!

Democrats do not believe there are only two genders, male and female. It’s the epitome of hypocrisy that the very individuals who cling dearly to the “science of climate change” totally ignore it when it comes to biological gender.

Democrats believe in allowing some young people to be convinced they require a “gender reassignment” in order to be content and live life happily. Obviously, God made a mistake, but with certain man-made medications, God’s error can be corrected. Oh, and by the way, your parents do not need to know!

Democrats support allowing men, who identify as women, to compete in women’s sports. It’s hard to believe we are even having this conversation, but these are the same “liberal loons” who support a woman’s right to an abortion but ignore their right to compete safely and fairly in sports. What happens when a male weightlifter says he now identifies as a woman and competes in female powerlifting events? How ludicrous is that?

Democrats believe a baby in the womb does not represent “life” until it is birthed and fight for abortion on demand during any stage of the pregnancy. Even then, some liberals want to legalize post-birth abortion simply on the grounds of mother’s rights. These are the same morons who would claim we found life on Mars if a microbe was located. Common sense is not permitted in the Democrat Party.

One cannot help but wonder about the legitimacy of the Democrat Party! Who are these people? Who do they feel they represent? Liberal Democrats are willingly making our nation’s system of checks and balances invalid, due to their ignorance. They are out of ideas and out of the will of most Americans.

If the Democrat Party does not begin representing the people who elected them, they will disappear, and a third party will emerge. And if they cannot abide by the Constitution and do their jobs – good riddance!

The job of an elected representative in our Republic, is to represent the people who elected them – period. May we all be reminded that knowledge, in itself, is not power. But the ability to use that knowledge on behalf of the people is the power voters expect politicians to usurp.

People around the world risk their lives to exercise their right to vote, while too many Americans sit on the sidelines.

A recent Pew Research survey produced some very disturbing insight as to how U.S. citizens feel about taking advantage of their right to vote.

“Nearly 56% of the U.S. voting-age population cast ballots in the 2016 presidential election, representing a slight uptick compared with 2012 but less than in the record year of 2008.”

Folks, this is unacceptable.  It’s the epitome of hypocrisy for the United States to rattle their saber for Democracy around the world when our own people won’t get off their backsides and vote!

That’s a very, sad commentary, indeed.

The United States is the greatest nation in the world for one reason. It’s foundation depends upon the engagement of its citizens.  It is a government for the people, by the people.

A wise man once said, “Don’t complain about what you permit.”

How many times do you hear someone complain about the conditions or environment in which we live, yet do absolutely nothing to change it – but complain?

If we take our freedoms for granted now, how will our children view them the next generation? 

We know, without a shadow of a doubt, that we have deep-state politicians who blatantly “rely” upon the ignorance of American citizens to the way they are represented.

Over the years, politicians have tended to hide their socialist tendencies and their lack of commitment to representing the people.

But now liberal Democrats run campaigns on that strategy!  The only reason they have the ability to do so is that we’ve allowed them control over our lives.  Politicians have been empowered and emboldened to do whatever they want to do, without fear of recompense.

Our Republic thrives on representation by those elected or hired by the people.  The fact that a representative may have an opposing view to that of their constituents is one matter.  But it’s an entirely different matter for a representative to ignore the wishes of the people in lieu of their own selfish agendas or compliance to their party’s platform!

Our Constitution does not protect the platform of a political party!  It protects the rights of U.S. citizens and the sovereignty of our nation!

I’ve learned over half a century of following politics that politicians understand only one language – the vote. 

Here’s the bottom line.

If you’re tired of lying political leaders who, frankly, are in their line of work for financial gain and power, you have the ability to give them their “pink slip” and send them back to the private sector!  But you have to be willing to exercise your right to vote!

It will take time, but we need to begin the process of training politicians to do their job or face the consequences.  Don’t keep electing the same feckless, hypocritical individuals who care more about their motivations than yours!

We have term limits now.  It’s called your vote.

Allow me to say this about those who would attempt to win an election by tearing down one’s opponent.

It makes you look very, very, small indeed.

Yes, it’s possible to win an election by “hook n’ crook”.  But is it worth losing your soul?

I believe God works all things for His good. 

God cannot be out maneuvered!  Satan tried and he and his supporters were all cast into the fiery pits of hell.

2020, with all of its shortcomings, has done one thing – exposed the evil heart and intent of many of those around us – people who are so short-sighted, they fill their day with searching opportunities on social media to disparage all things Godly and good.

They laugh and scorn when a U.S. president and the 1st lady get a serious virus.  They manipulate information digitally to misrepresent a candidate with Godly intent.

They have no life, no argument, and no hope.  So, they wallow in their vomitous message of hate and aspire to bring others into the putrid pit with them.

These individuals slither among society in our nation and in our city of Huntington, WV.

And rest assured, God is keenly aware of each one of them.

So, a message to those who would be filled with despicable joy at the death of our president…

To those who would attack candidates and their families and cause them pain simply to win an election…

To those whose hope rests in the demise and dismay of others…know this!

God is not mocked.  Whatever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 23 And the Egyptians pursued and went after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

26 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.” 27 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and when the morning appeared, the sea returned to its full depth, while the Egyptians were fleeing into it. So the Lord overthrew[f] the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28 Then the waters returned and covered the chariots… the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. Not so much as one of them remained. 29 But the children of Israel had walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.

God will protect His children. 

And you will be covered by the waters of the Red Sea if you attempt to harm them.

The digital super-highway is laden with information about Huntington, WV’s rich heritage.  We haven’t always been a city nearly “last” in every measurable attribute.

Once described as a “historic and bustling city of commerce and heavy industry,” benefitting from its location on the Ohio River, it was home to the “Port of Huntington Tri-State,” one of the busiest inland ports in the United States, per online sources.

Birthed from the vision of Collis P. Huntington, a railroad capitalist, our fair city, once known as “Holderby’s Landing,” was incorporated in 1871 and renamed, Huntington, after its founder.

Growing around the railroad, which came through in 1873, the city began to prosper. During much of the 20th century it was a significant river and rail point for the nation’s business. Our resources, work ethic and geography enabled the city of Huntington to be manufacturing “rich and diverse”, producing railroad equipment, steel, coal, fabricated metal, mining equipment, rebuilt machinery, rubber products, chemicals and clothing.

Many “baby boomers” and those having grown up in Huntington recall industries such as, ACF Industries, Owens-Illinois, Fastenal and Kerr Glass. The list is as heartbreaking as it is seemingly endless. One by one, we’ve watched these opportunity outlets fade away, abiding in memory only.

Yes, there are many factors which have contributed to the demise of industry in our region, but none any more responsible than decades of failing, liberal Democrat policies.

Some things never change.

With the eradication of good-paying jobs, “hope was sure to follow”. Hope is simply having a vision for the future and a purpose for one’s life. The Bible says that “without vision, the people perish.” I can think of no better way to describe our city. It is perishing a slow, painful death.

I’m resigned to believe our leaders are either incredibly ignorant of the situation, or they don’t care. Either way, it isn’t our city’s leadership that’s paying the price – it’s the citizens.

When all we hear are the “accolades” being bestowed upon our mayor for being on the “front lines” of the battle against Opioid addiction, yet, the situation has never been worse, something doesn’t pass the smell test. Frankly, I’m tired of agendas superseding accuracy!

Again, this has nothing to do with a dislike of the mayor or city leaders. It also has nothing to do with a lack of compassion for those bound by addiction, entombed in poverty or impacted by crime. Anyone who uses this argument against simple reasoning, isn’t being intellectually honest with you!

And it’s sheer insanity to keep going down the same road and expecting different results.

It seems to me, the only results we’re seeing is the increasing number of people being “captured” in the nets of addiction recovery houses. I have heard from numerous, credible sources, some of these recovery institutions are now actively “soliciting” addicts from outside the state of WV. into our city for treatment.

Could this be possible? If they truly want to help these folks, support efforts in their states and cities, NOT OURS! THE CITIZENS OF HUNTINGTON HAVE ENOUGH ISSUES OF THEIR OWN WITHOUT TAKING ON OTHER STATE’S PROBLEMS!  THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!

Yet, sadly, government subsidies follow these individuals right into these institutions. You be the judge as to who benefits the most. But, in no way, shape or form, could it be the citizens of Huntington.

Someone has got to “stop this wheel of absurdity!”

We must demand a third-party audit of not only the Cabell-Huntington Health Department’s needle exchange program, but the success rates of many of these rehabilitation institutions. Maybe, I’m just overly cautious, but based on what I see with my own eyes, I’m not willing to take anyone’s “word” on the success rate. Too often, perceived results can be skewed by emotion and personal investment in the project. Give us accurate data; not emotional responses!

Ultimately, the taxpayers own these programs and have a right to see where their hard-earned money is being spent! In the interest of transparency and good will, these rehab facilities, as well as the Cabell-Huntington Health Department, should willingly submit to ongoing audits. If for no other reason, to share learnings and make necessary adjustments that will make them even more successful!

No organization supported by taxpayer dollars should ever be allowed to “fly under the radar”.

The city of Huntington will never be able to return to a community filled with industry and solid work ethic until three things happen.

First, we must have leadership ready, willing and able to look beyond political aspirations, directly into the heart of the city and do what’s right for the people – not for their paycheck.

Secondly, we must change our mindset on how to effectively reduce the Opioid epidemic, rather than expanding our nets of enablement.

And finally, the people of Huntington must take a stand and embrace a sense of urgency in making these changes.

Time is not an abundant asset in this fight. We may, already, be close to the point of no return.

Don’t accept lip service. Expect accurate, unbiased information.

And then use it to turn this city around.

So-called “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” or TDS, seems to have infected the minds of liberals across the land. While apparently impacting the brain and central nervous system, I believe it’s critically impairing the left’s ability to reason or comprehend facts.

The Center for Advanced Conservative Studies is said to be working to determine if TDS is indeed responsible for liberals laboring to undermine, either willingly or unknowingly, everything President Trump intends to accomplish on behalf of the American people during his presidency.

Many fear we may not arrive at a viable cure for this debilitating disease until the 2018 midterm elections.

But seriously folks, at what point will liberals be willing to set aside their intolerant hatred of President Trump on behalf of the American people? For progressives, it isn’t about improving the livelihood of millions of Americans; it’s about destroying one man – Donald J. Trump!

Case in point: It appears liberal Democrats will be unwilling to vote for tax reform and lower taxes for the American people, despite the Tax Foundation reporting that taxes cost Americans more out-of-pocket than they collectively spend on housing, clothing and food – combined! What an audacious disregard for the American taxpayer!

Ironically, this past Sunday was the anniversary of former president Reagan signing into law his successful Tax Reform Act of 1986. This was the second major law he signed reforming the tax code for the American people. It was a time when Republicans and Democrats came together to work for all Americans.

Now, over 30 years later, President Trump seeks to live up to his promise to historically reduce taxes and simplify the burdensome tax system for millions of Americans. In a speech to the Heritage Foundation, President Trump outlined his new plan along with highlighting a few substantial successes he’s already had on behalf of Americans.

“In the nine months since I took office as president, we have removed intrusive, job-killing regulations at a record pace.” Trump said. “We are leaving lopsided international deals that hurt America, like the Trans-Pacific Partnership and Paris Climate Accord. We have unleashed American energy by ending the war on coal and approving major projects like the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines. And earlier this month, I signed an executive order to take important steps to free our people from the grip of Obamacare.”

The president went on to share that unemployment was at a 16-year low, wages are rising, manufacturing confidence is higher, the stock market is soaring, and GDP growth has climbed to more than 3 percent – a feat never achieved under his predecessor.

“The optimism has returned – the sun is once again rising over America,” the president proudly proclaimed.

But even as President Trump works on behalf of hard-working families, those infected with TDS are choosing to allow the hatred of one man to supersede their love of country.

So, given the American people are coming off eight years of liberal oppression, I’m confident patriots won’t rest until a cure is found for this progressive disease.

For now, President Trump’s successes are offsetting this liberal disorder.
